Completing My 2020 Virtual Grand Rapids Half Marathon

To be honest, this morning didn’t feel like marathon day. It pretty much felt like any other morning I get up while it’s still dark, and everyone else is asleep, to go for a run.

This year has been a challenging one for running, and races, that is for sure. Most races were cancelled, postponed, or changed to virtual. My training has been all on my own, and when the pandemic hit I stopped sharing all of my runs on social media. Life wasn’t “business as usual” and I really couldn’t maintain a facade like it was. I did commit to running my 2020 Grand Rapids Half Marathon as a virtual run despite the offer to defer to next year.

This morning I put my race jersey on, pinned my bib, but there will wasn’t the excitement and anticipation there that normally comes on race day. I finished, I met my $1000 fundraising goal for more wells in Africa, and I hung up my bib and finishers medal. I’m hopeful that I’ll find my joy in running again, and find myself once again among the hustle and bustle of race day.
